Palavas les flots

The closest beach to Montpellier is Palavas-les-Flots, which can be reached in just 20 minutes by car or streetcar from the city center. This popular seaside resort offers sandy beaches, water sports, and a lively promenade with stores and restaurants.

By tram/bus,

you can take the tramway line n°4 in the direction of “Pérols – Étang de l’Or” and get off at the station “Étang de l’Or”. From there, you can take the bus line n°131 towards “Palavas-les-Flots” and get off at the station “Palavas-les-Flots – Office du Tourisme”. The journey takes about 45 minutes.

By bike,

you can follow the cycle route along the river Lez to the sea. From there, you can continue along the cycle track that runs along the beach to Palavas-les-Flots. The route starts by following the bike path along the river Lez, which is near your apartment. You can get to the bike path by taking the direction of rue du Mas de Teste and turning left onto rue de la Jasse de Maurin. You should find the bike path on the left after a few hundred meters. Follow the bike path along the river Lez to the sea, then turn right to join the bike path along the beach. Follow this bike path to Palavas-les-Flots. The bike ride takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace and traffic conditions. There are bicycle parking lots available in Palavas-les-Flots, near the beach and restaurants

Carnon plage

If you prefer a quieter beach, you can head to Carnon-Plage, which is located just outside of Palavas-les-Flots. By bike,

you can join the bike path along the river Lez by taking the direction of “rue du Mas de Teste” and turning left on “rue de la Jasse de Maurin”. You should find the bike path on the left after a few hundred meters.

Follow the bike path along the Lez River to the mouth of the river, then turn right to continue on the bike path along the Mediterranean. Follow this bike path to Carnon.

La grande motte 

If you’re in the mood for a more exclusive beach, you can head to La Grande-Motte, an upscale resort located about 25 minutes drive from Montpellier.
